Sanyo HIT Solar Cell Achieves 21.6% Efficiency
SANYO's Technology R&D Headquarters and the Clean Energy Company have jointly developed an HIT (Heterojunction with Intrinsic Thin layer) solar cell with the highest power generation efficiency among practical size cells available and at the research level.
The new HIT solar cell is 10cm square, nearly the same size as solar cells currently used for home and industrial applications.
SANYO has achieved an efficiency level of 21.6% according to in-house measurements. This was accomplished through optimization in many areas, including lowering the current collector's resistance level, improving the aspect ratio, optimizing the design for transparent electrodes, and improving the cell's junction formation.
