Biodiesel Seen As Boosting Nebraska Ag Economy

Fuels Security Act of 2005 includes a renewable fuels standard (RFS) that would gradually increase the nation's use of renewable fuels from 4 billion gallons in 2006 to 8 billion gallons in 2012.

Legislation introduced Thursday in the U.S. Senate that will increase the use of biodiesel is being hailed by the Nebraska Soybean Board.

According to state soybean board member Greg Greving of Chapman, the bipartisan Fuels Security Act of 2005 will provide new markets and better prices for Nebraska soybean growers.

The bill includes a renewable fuels standard (RFS) that would gradually increase the nation's use of renewable fuels from 4 billion gallons in 2006 to 8 billion gallons in 2012. This is an increase over previous RFS measures.
