Greens Force Oxford Mayor Out of BMW Into Prius

A lord mayor is to be forced to get an eco-friendly car after the Green Party overturned a vote in a long-running row over buying him a BMW.

Oxford council voted to replace Bryan Keen's ageing car with a £22,000 BMW, because of the company's local plant.

But he will now get a petrol/electric Toyota Prius, which Greens say is cheaper and causes half the pollution.

There was concern Mr Keen's ceremonial mace would not fit in the car, although Greens say they have disproved this.
