Canada Calls on U.S. to Stick with Kyoto Accord
OTTAWA (Reuters) - Prime Minister Jean Chretien called on the United States on Tuesday to stick with the Kyoto accord to combat global warming, and reiterated Canada's intention to honor its commitment to cut greenhouse gases.
"We think we have to continue with Kyoto and we think the Americans should do the same," Chretien told reporters after a weekly cabinet meeting.
The White House last week announced an end to U.S. support for the 1997 Kyoto pact, which calls for the reduction of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions to try to lessen further warming of the world's climate.
