ZAP HIres Law Firm To Protect Intellectual Property Rights

Pillsbury, Winthrop LLP hired to represent ZAP with regard to protection of its intellectual property rights, including its patents, trademarks, and copyrights, and to prosecute those who violate these rights to unlawfully and unfairly compete.

SEBASTOPOL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 12, 2001--Electric scooter maker ZAPWORLD.COM (NASDAQ:ZAPP) has engaged the law firm Pillsbury, Winthrop LLP to represent ZAP with regard to protection of its intellectual property rights, including its patents, trademarks, and copyrights, and to prosecute those who violate these rights to unlawfully and unfairly compete.

Pillsbury's Intellectual Property Group is a leader in the field of patent prosecution, and patent and trademark litigation worldwide. Recently they won a $211 million judgment for Haworth Inc., in a patent case centered on Haworth's patent rights on electrified office panels used to form cubicles. Pillsbury has also successfully litigated cases against consumer catalog companies such as The Sharper Image, which have carried products infringing the rights of others.

The team that will be working with ZAP includes, Richard H. Zaitlen, Anthony J. Stanley, and Joel B. German. Mr. Zaitlen, a Pillsbury Winthrop partner, teaches trademark law and unfair competition, and was previously employed with the U.S. Patent and Trademark office. Mr. Zaitlen has served as lead trial counsel in many matters involving patents, trademarks, and copyrights. Mr. Stanley and Mr. German, also Pillsbury Winthrop attorneys, have substantial litigation and transactional experience designed to protect holders of intellectual property rights.

ZAP is now the holder of 14 patents, 7 trademarks, and several copyrights. ZAP has invested considerable time, research and funds to promote and create its category of unique proprietary electric vehicle products including the ZAP Powerbike(R) and its electric scooter the ZAPPY(R).
