WILTON, Conn., March 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Startech Environmental Corp, (Nasdaq: STHK), the world leader in plasma waste remediation and recycling technology, unveiled its first commercially-sized StarCell(TM) system for inspection by its shareholders at the Company's annual shareholder meeting yesterday. The system on display, will produce about 30 cubic feet of hydrogen per minute. The StarCell unit shown measures 2 feet wide by 8 feet 6 inches long and is 6 feet 8 inches high.

Karl Hale, engineering VP, said, "While Starcell is an important development for the acceptance and use of fuel cells, it is especially important for the direct hydrogen-powered engines rapidly being developed. For example, when you consider that an average car driving 11,000 miles per year uses about 109 cubic feet of hydrogen per day, the Starcell unit we just showed our shareholders, at 30 cubic feet per minute, can supply enough hydrogen to fuel about 400 cars each and every day."

He also said, "StarCell is a patented filtration system that extracts hydrogen from Plasma Converted Gas (PCG)(TM), a valuable synthesis gas mixture produced by Startech's Plasma Converter (TM) when it is processing many wastes. PCG contains a lot of hydrogen. StarCell, when used with a Plasma Converter, produces low-cost hydrogen from garbage. A pound of garbage will produce about 7 cubic feet of hydrogen."
