Southern California Launches Third Air Quality Study
During the next 18 months, the regional smog agency will be testing the air we breathe for cancer-causing pollutants. The timing is excellent.
For one thing, air pollution and the traffic that causes most of it are getting worse. For another, this study will provide solid facts, not theories, about health risks and progress toward remedies.
This will be the third such study by the South Coast Air Quality Management District. The last one, called MATES II (for Multiple Air Toxics Exposure Study), was done in 1999.
