A Lenexa-based wind energy company has leased ground in rural Winfield and hopes to construct a 10-turbine wind farm on the property later this year or early next year, a company spokesperson said.

“From our preliminary study we know there is sufficient wind resource” at the Winfield site, Matt Gilhousen, vice president of operations for Kansas Wind Power LLC, said Friday afternoon.

Three landowners have entered into an agreement to lease Kansas Wind Power property for the windfarm that would sit about three or four miles northeast of town. The company will oversee the $10- to $12 million project.
