With a final flurry of activity on automotive safety and government ethics -- and the usual long goodbyes -- the lame-duck session of the 210th Legislature came to a close last night.

A bill adopting California's tough auto emissions rules won final passage from the Assembly after an impassioned debate that dragged late into the evening. It had passed the Senate earlier in the day.
