DETROIT - A celebration of industrial might, the North American International Auto Show adds flash and glamour to the grit of the Motor City during the winter. In that respect, this year's version will likely disappoint no one.

The show, which opened to the public Saturday after a week of media previews and buildup, drew predictable swarms of onlookers curious to see not only the state of the industry in 2004, but also what's to come in the future.

With numerous concept vehicles and fledgling technological innovations, the event once again is proving to be a lucrative draw for visitors from far beyond metro Detroit.
