Car of the Future Is Here Today

New Toyota Prius is exciting improvement over previous model, but some question if drivers will save any money.

Neighbors often inquired what the heck kind of car Ted Emmons was driving back in 2001. It was called a Toyota Prius - and most folks hadn't even heard of the thing.

Not so today.

The 2004 Toyota Prius hit the U.S. consumer market in mid-October and is so hot that consumers in some areas are willing to sign up on waiting lists - some as long as four months - to get the gasoline-electric hybrid that boasts 51 miles per gallon on the freeway and 60 in the city.
