IPSWICH -- It generated opposition, and it now appears that's the only energy that will ever flow from a proposed wind farm in Ipswich Bay.

Winergy, the Long Island-based company behind the proposal, has failed to meet a U.S. Army Corps of Engineers'-imposed deadline to file paperwork for the project, and federal officials have closed their files on it.

Winergy first floated the idea last November, saying it wanted to build 10 towers, each 400 feet tall, just 1 1 /2 to 2 miles off the coast of Ipswich, from Plum Island Sound to Gloucester. The company also unveiled plans for wind farms off Provincetown and in Buzzard's Bay, and now those projects also look to be dead in the water.
