The Copiague School District has added an electric passenger vehicle to its fleet of security cars thanks to the efforts of Town of Babylon Supervisor Steve Bellone.

The vehicle, called Gemcar, is manufactured by Global Electric Motorcars, LLC a subsidiary of Daimler Chrysler Company. They are completely electric, zero emission vehicles that can carry two passengers up to 25 miles per hour. The vehicle plugs into a standard 110 volt outlet for recharging.

"The new car will be used during the day by high school security, and in the evenings and on weekends by the sports teams and band," stated Superintendent of Schools Dr. William R. Bolton. "The electric car adds a much needed efficient means to get around our athletic complex and school grounds.
