Eco-Friendly Car Grants in UK Exceeds Gov't Expectations
Government grants for buying eco-friendly cars have been put on ice until April after the cash ran out just half way through the financial year, and will be cut next year.
The charity that administers the scheme said higher-than-expected sales of clean vehicles meant it would have to cut the value of next year's grants to ensure the government budget lasted longer. The Energy Saving Trust said half this year's £20m cash had been paid out and all the rest allocated.
"The government is supposed to have a carrot-and-stick approach, but they have run out of carrots," said Vauxhall, which sells liquefied petroleum gas powered vehicles.
