USA's Great Basin Wind Seen as Untapped Utah Resource
EVANSTON, Wyo. -- Brilliant white against a clear blue sky, 80 sleek windmills stand like sentinels atop the snow-covered ridges east of Evanston.
The air is unusually still and quiet on this day in early November, a stark contrast to the scene forecast a few weeks from now.
By then, the steady winds that help define this high, sagebrush desert of southwestern Wyoming will be blowing again, and these 375-foot-tall windmills -- also called "wind towers" -- will be whirring and whooshing.
