Company demonstrates world's first curved lithium ion battery.

LIVERMORE, Calif., Feb. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- PolyStor Corporation is a world-class producer of Advanced Energy Storage Products. PolyStor designs, develops and manufactures rechargeable Lithium-ion and Lithium-ion Polymer batteries for intelligent, mobile devices and portable electronic products. In its seven-year history, PolyStor has distinguished itself as the first lithium-ion battery producer in the United States and the first to use a revolutionary Nickel Cobalt Oxide cathode that delivers the highest capacity and energy density in the industry. Recently PolyStor obtained an exclusive license to manufacturing intellectual property for lithium-ion battery technology from Motorola Energy Systems Group. As a result, PolyStor now produces the world's first, commercially available, curved, lithium-ion polymer battery.

The founders of PolyStor began using their expertise in Lithium-ion to develop technology for the "Star Wars" defense program at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) in the 1980's. PolyStor Corporation was formed to bring this technology to market. Early products at PolyStor included Aerogel Capacitors and Lithium-ion cylindrical cells. In 1997 PolyStor ordered Sony FA, high volume, automated production lines. In 1998 the U.S. Army CECOM group signed a contract with PolyStor to develop the BB-2590. In the same year PolyStor received a contract from the U.S. Department of Energy's Partnership for a New Generation Vehicle (PNGV) program to develop battery modules for hybrid electric vehicles. In 1999 PolyStor moved into its new 68,000 square foot manufacturing and R&D facility in Livermore, California and began mass production of an 8 millimeter thick, lithium-ion prismatic cell. In 2000 the company established sales offices in Europe and Asia and began shipments to a global customer base. By the end of 2000 PolyStor's family of products included lithium-ion prismatic cells with capacities ranging from 1000 milli-Amp hours (mAh) to 1350 mAh and lithium-ion polymer cells with capacities ranging from 160 mAh to 1200 mAh. Multiple product introductions will occur in 2001.

PolyStor's mission is to offer its customers a "Total Design Solution" for their portable power requirements. This is accomplished with a versatile Applications Engineering Team that works hand-in-hand with Original Equipment Manufacturers to provide technical support from concept, to design, through implementation. PolyStor production lines are operated in strict adherence to the "Six Sigma" Quality methodology and PolyStor products are designed to meet UL Safety Requirements. Regional service and customized battery pack assembly are provided through PolyStor's Value Added Partner program, a world-wide network of authorized, independent, distribution companies that receive factory support and training from PolyStor technicians.
