ONG>New Delhi, August 26: The government has set up a group to monitor the programme to promote biodiesel. The biodiesel programme aims to blend 5 per cent biodiesel with high-speed diesel in one-tenth of the districts of the country from January 1, 2005.

The group, to be headed by an additional secretary in the rural development ministry, will have representatives from the ministries of agriculture and petroleum, oil companies and the Planning Commission.

The rural development ministry had been identified as the nodal agency for the promotion of biodiesel, said official sources. The petroleum ministry will chalk out the economics and the policy mechanism to popularise biodiesel.
