Panasonic, Toyota, Matsushita Co-develop HEV Battery

New nickel metal hydride battery achieves record output density.

o (JCNN) - Panasonic EV Energy, Toyota and Matsushita Electric have co-developed a hybrid vehicle nickel metal hydride battery.

The battery achieves an output density of 1,300W/kg, 30% higher than its predecessor and the world's highest level. The new 7.2V, 6.5Ah module delivers an energy density of 46Wh/kg. It measures 106x285x19.6mm and weighs 1,040g.

Panasonic EV Energy will begin manufacturing the battery in large quantities this summer.
