Abstract

Rex Hodge had only eight minutes to drive home his point Monday and sell a conference room full of well-heeled, tough-minded angel investors on his vision for the 21st-century automobile.

As the seconds ticked away and his Power Point slides flashed across the screen, the former aerospace engineer spoke enthusiastically about his lofty plan to build a $2 billion Sacramento-based auto company in the next four years. He urged investors to take a new view of his luxury commuter car -- a fuel-efficient, environmentally friendly, electric vehicle.

"We're almost there. We'll do it," said Hodge, president and chief executive officer of Anuvu Inc., a fledgling fuel-cell developer and aspiring automaker.
