The American Farm Bureau Federation recently applauded the passage of a comprehensive energy bill that could help agriculture.

The energy package approved by the Senate includes the Renewable Fuels Standard. The standard calls for increased usage of ethanol, which is made from corn, and biodiesel to 5 billion gallons a year by 2012.

It also includes tax incentives for renewable energy sources such as biomass and wind. There also are tax incentives for increased domestic oil and gas production and a natural gas pipeline from Alaska to the lower 48 states.
