Toyota Motor Corp. plans to start selling the Prius gasoline-electric hybrid car in China as early as the middle of next year, the business daily Nihon Keizai Shimbun reported, without saying where it got the information.

The automaker plans to export to China the new version of the Prius, which will be released next month in Japan, the report said. Toyota will probably set an annual sales target of a few hundred vehicles, the newspaper said.

The Toyota city-based company plans to develop a maintenance network for the Prius in urban areas such as Beijing and Shanghai after approval from the Chinese government, the report said.
