Barcelona Police Go Electric

Catalan capital burnishes its green image even more with the addition of 30 BMW evolution-c electric maxi scooters to the city police force.

Published: 24-Mar-2015

The Spanish Mediterranean city of Barcelona is the first to deploy the BMW C evolution electric maxi scooter with its police department. The 30 all-electric two-wheelers have a range of up to 100 km (62 miles) on their 8kWh, air-cooled lithium-ion batteries. BMW reports that recharge time when "plugged in to a standard 220V domestic socket with a 12A charge current, recharging fully from empty takes around 4 hours (with 220V / 16A = 3 h)."

The city of Barcelona is considered a model not only for the promotion of two-wheeled urban mobility through its 6,000 bicycle sharing program, but also its numerous green city innovations. The deployment of the C evolution electric scooters continues the policy of making the city more livable for people instead of just cars.
