(U-WIRE) BERKELEY, Calif. -- The University of California at Berkeley researchers are working to revolutionize the quality and cleanliness of energy as we know it.

Through his study of photovoltaics and hydrogen fuel cells, UC Berkeley nuclear engineering professor Daniel Kammen, the director of the Renewable and Appropriate Energy Laboratory, hopes to wean America off of fossil fuels.

"The work we do in RAEL is driven by an interest in the untapped potential for energy efficiency and renewable energy to provide low cost fossil-fuel alternatives," Kammen said.
