Hybrid-electric Cars Used in Minneapolis Car-share Program

Around this time of year, Susan Cairn and her husband always debate whether they should get a second car. The self-employed Cairns, who have two children, bicycle in the summer. But getting around in the winter can be frustrating when business appointments and children's activities conflict and when the bus system doesn't meet their needs.
"I really don't want to buy another car. It's not that often we need another car, once a week at most. This car-share program will be perfect," Cairn said.
The Longfellow woman is eagerly awaiting the launch of hOurCar, a car-sharing program that would allow members to rent a hybrid vehicle on an hourly basis. Members could reserve a car online and retrieve it from a location within their Twin Cities neighborhood.
