Diesel-driven utility vehicles by Mahindra & Mahindra which has built the Mumbai-based company's fortunes will perhaps take a back seat in the upcoming Indian Auto Expo as electric and hybrid models take charge.

The company will showcase India's first sporty four door all-electric car built by its subsidiary Mahindra Reva Electric Cars (MREC), which had also developed the E2o, the four-seater mini car. This is a ground up new product by MREC after the E2o and will be the show-stopper of the event.

The electric version of the self-developed sedan Verito (inspired by the Logan sedan by Renault) will also be displayed and could be launched in the domestic market provided the government comes out with some incentives for the sector.

Mahindra Reva E2O electric car will launch despite Indian gov't not extending electric car subsidy.

Mahindra is planning to 30,000 units by the 2015-2016 timeframe, counting on the car's low operational costs and battery rental scheme to overcome initial premium.

Mahindra Verito EV is based on Renault Logan.

Indian Auto Blog chats with Mahindra Reva's Chetan Maini at Mumbai Auto Expo about plans for the electric version of the Renault Logan built under license in India.

Mahindra Reva E2O electric car launched on 18-March-2013.

The E2O will be sold across most Indian cities through Mahindra’s countrywide dealership network.
