Johnson Controls Lithium Battery to be Paired with German Electric Boat Motor

The cleaner and quieter motor is priced at $19,999 and lithium battery packs starting at $15,000.

Milwaukee, WI -- Lithium-ion batteries made by Johnson Controls Inc. will power an electric boat motor made by Torqeedo of Germany, the companies announced Thursday.

Batteries for the 80-horsepower electric boat motor, named Deep Blue, will be produced at Johnson Controls' advanced battery factory in Holland, Mich.

Production will launch this spring.

Based on the price of the Focus Electric and size of the battery pack, Ford would be paying between $522 and $650 a kilowatt-hour for its electric-vehicle batteries.
