Chevy Volt Dominates E-Car Market with 60% of July Sales

Sales of Nissan LEAF and Toyota Prius PHV dipped in July to 395 and 688 vehicles respectively.

In our inaugural "Electric Vehicle Dashboard" report for July, total electric-vehicle sales have exceeded 20,000 in the U.S. year-to-date, on pace to reach our estimate for 50,000 in 2012.

The General Motors (ticker: GM) Volt continues to dominate the market as [ Nissan's (NSANY)] Leaf and [ Toyota Motor's (TM)] Prius plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) sales dipped.

With its first 29 Model S delivered, Tesla Motors (TSLA) is off to a slow start but targets a rapid "S curve" adoption in the fourth quarter to meet its 5,000 target.
