How Battery Swapping Could Spell End of Oil

ABC News sees potential of Better Place's battery exchange model to reducing dependence on petroleum.

Gas is expensive. Polar ice is melting. Oil revenue funds our enemies.

Yet despite these economic, environmental and security problems, we remain, to quote former President George W. Bush, "addicted to oil."

However, Shai Agassi, the founder and CEO of Better Place, says he has a way for us to get clean: battery-powered electric cars.


Renault Fluence ZE electric car with swappable batteries  to be part of service program.

Service contracts, which include Renault Fluence Z.E., will range from $280 to $560 a month depending on the miles driven.

Better Place charging station will automatically swap the car's battery.

About 10,000 people signed an “interested” list for Renault-built Fluence ZE electric cars in Israel.
