SINGAPORE -- The advent of the electric car is not exactly new. It is not even a second coming. It is the third, at least.

Electric cars actually preceded cars with internal combustion (IC) engines. From the late 1880s to the 1920s, electric vehicles (EVs) were the preferred choice.

They were silent, vibration- free, nippy and did not belch smoke or require manual crank starting.
