PolyStor Produces the World's First Commercially Available Curved Lithium Ion Polymer Battery

Curved battery will enable new space-saving, aerodynamic applications.

LIVERMORE, Calif., Dec. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The future is curved! The portable electronics industry is moving towards wearable, wireless devices that require batteries to fit in curved spaces. PolyStor has met the challenge by producing curved, rechargeable, lithium ion polymer batteries to supply the energy needs of the future. As aerodynamics, ergonomics and space-savings become increasingly important design factors, batteries must be shaped to fit their applications. While other battery manufactures are talking about it, PolyStor is producing it.

PolyStor has several patents pending that cover the Design, Geometry, Fabrication and Ultrasonic Lamination of Shaped Gel Polymer Batteries. Using PolyStor's revolutionary Lithium Nickel Cobalt Oxide Cathode and an exclusive polymer technology license from Motorola Energy Systems Group (ESG), PolyStor's PolyCell(TM) product line is currently mass producing the PSC434654C, an 850 milli Amp-hour (mAh) capacity cell that is 46 millimeters wide, 54 millimeters long, 4.3 millimeters thick, and curved to fit ergonomically in a person's hand. Several other curved cell sizes are in various stages of production. PolyStor's automated production lines are capable of manufacturing lithium ion polymer batteries with single dimensional curvatures in capacities ranging from 160 mAh to 1200 mAh. Custom sizes and larger cells are possible depending on customer requirements.
