DETROIT - Even though it's been on the market for less than two full months, the Volt is a standout.

The electric car, made by General Motors Co.'s Chevrolet division, has been received numerous awards, including Car of the Year at the North American International Auto Show that wraps today at Detroit's Cobo Center.

The Volt is powered by a battery pack that uses a back-up gas-powered generator to keep electricity flowing when the battery runs low. Together, the propulsion systems give the car a range of more than 350 miles.
