Paranoid Not a Bad Thing for GM's Akerson
The 62-year-old former naval officer leaves work at 7 or 8 most nights, armed with reading homework he has gathered that day.
"It drives people nuts around here. In a staff meeting, they say, 'You don't want that,' and I say, 'Give it to me. I want it all,' " he said in an exclusive interview the week before his first Detroit auto show as CEO.
It's all part of his race to develop strategies that will help GM weather whatever comes its way. With GM back on the stock market and the Chevrolet Volt launched, he wants to see GM at the top of its game long past the three to five years he expects to be CEO.
