EnerDel Scales Back Battery Plant Plans

Greenfield -- Lithium battery maker EnerDel is seeking zoning approval for a heavy manufacturing operation in a Mount Comfort business park.

The subsidiary of New York-based Ener1 applied for a special-use exception with the Hancock County Board of Zoning Appeals. The board will consider the request at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 28 at the County Courthouse Annex, 111 American Legion Place.

Officials of the Indianapolis-based startup EnerDel have said they have scaled back since announcing they would invest $184 million and hire 800 people, said Dennis Maloy, executive director of the Hancock Economic Development Council.
