EU, U.S. Meet in Bid to Salvage Global Warming Pact
OTTAWA (Reuters) - Senior government officials from the United States and the European Union opened two days of closed-door talks on Wednesday in a bid to salvage a deal designed to curb global warming.
The meeting, held in a downtown Ottawa hotel, was the first time the two sides had made contact since the dramatic collapse last month of U.N.-sponsored talks in The Hague to set a global strategy on cutting "greenhouse gas" emissions.
If they can find enough common ground it could pave the way for a ministerial conference in Oslo as early as next week.
