Canada Hosts Hasty Effort to Salvage Climate-change Negotiations
OTTAWA (CP) - Canada is hosting an urgent effort by about two dozen countries to salvage climate-change negotiations following the collapse of a high-profile conference in the Netherlands last month.
The meeting, which began Tuesday and ends Thursday, is being attended by representatives of major industrialized countries of the European Union and the so-called umbrella group which includes Canada, the United States, Russia, Norway, Iceland, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.
If the hastily called meetings here can find enough common ground, ministerial-level talks could begin as early as next week in Oslo, Norway.
