Electric Cars May Not Save Detroit

Electric concept cars - the key word being 'concept' - are hardly a solution to the Detroit Three’s gigantic problems.

East Lansing -- Start your engines, Detroit, but don’t forget to plug in your car overnight.

The Detroit Three auto companies unveiled several electric concept cars at the 2009 North American International Auto Show as the car manufacturers attempt to keep their collective heads above water.

But there is one thing these companies are forgetting — electricity and water don’t mix.


With seating up of four people who use all the large muscle groups, the car can easily cruise at speeds of up to 20 mph.

ZAP is hoping to keep the MSRP at $30,000 for the Alias three-wheeler pictured here.

Hero Motors Ultra Maxi uses a 250 watt motor to avoid falling into category that would require license fees, road taxes and registration.
