The star of "Revolutionary Road" recently traded in his Toyota Prius hybrid for a $147,000 Tesla Roadster, the first high-performance electric car. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Leonardo DiCaprio also talked up his passion for eco-causes, and his first sports car.

"It's scarily fast and it all happens with the flip of a switch, unlike a piston-driven engine that needs to build up momentum."

About his passion for environmental issues, he noted, "I don't think it's fair to tell people to install solar panels, buy (low-watt) light bulbs or drive a hybrid—that's not a reality for most people..." But, he added, "We are the most powerful country in the world and we haven't made a tiptoe towards renewable technologies. We should be the ones paving the way, the ones other countries look up to. It makes me extremely sad."

Powered by advanced lithium-ion batteries and two 67bhp (50kW) electric motors to drive the front and rear axles, the Mixim is a four-wheel-drive car with a theoretical top speed of 112mph and a potential maximum range of 156 miles.

Dodge ZEO is 2+2 electric muscle car for the 21st century powered by 200kW electric drive with 0-60 mph in less than 6 seconds and range of 250 miles.

The Air Car may do better than fuel-cell cars, but experts say that using grid power to charge a battery-powered electric vehicle is much more efficient than using electricity to compress and store the same amount of energy in a tank.
