Weight-loss Polymer Finds Use in Advanced Lithium Battery

University of Malaya experimenting with Chitosan polymer in Lithium battery research

Published: 01-Dec-2000

You have probably heard of Chitosan as a weight-reduction agent. It absorbs fat and is easily flushed from the human digestive system. Many local and foreign pharmaceutical companies have taken advantage of this polymer to produce oral prescriptions for weight reduction.

But did you know that this compound is also the basis of research as an energy source at Universiti Malaya's (UM) Department of Physics?

Associate Professor Dr Abdul Kariem Mohd made a cutting-edge finding more than five years ago, when he and a team of 15 doctorate students embarked on a solid-state Lithium-ion battery research programme.
