At 10:00 AM Pacific Coast Time, the Power of One solar car, called the X01, will officially establish the world record for the longest distance covered by a solar powered car, 15,000 km (9,321 mi).
The trip across Canada has taken Marcelo de Luz 120 days along the Trans-Canadian highway, during which time he's encountered wolves, Dall sheep and even unexplained lights in the sky.
Powered by just over 7 square meters of solar cells developed by Shell, the car is capable of a top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph). The electric output of the solar array is stored in 4kWh Kokam lithium polymer battery pack rated at 96 volts, enabling the car to operate well into the night.
On hitting the "0" mile marker on the Trans-Canadian Highway, the record will be attested to by an RCMP officer.
