Electronic Bikes Offer 'Green' Transportation

A four-hour charge from a regular outlet will allow the bike to travel 18 to 20 miles without pedaling.

Riding an electric bike down Chicago Avenue was not something Oak Park Fire Chief Bill Bell saw himself doing Thursday morning.

But after test riding a couple of the models, Bell said he would consider purchasing electric bicycles for the Oak Park Fire Department.

"We've talked about getting something electric just for the inspections in town," Bell said. "It would save on gas. This thing moves along pretty quickly."
