But brothers Andrew and Chris Ewert have put something far more powerful in the back of their parents' Toyota Prius: a lithium-ion battery pack capable of dramatically boosting the hybrid car's already impressive fuel efficiency.

   The ONLY thing that comes to mind is that this is another wonderful example of backyard mechanics. Too bad the details are not as rosy as the article leads on.

Anyone want to even guess what kind of $$$ they spent on that project??? If you load a city bus with lithium batteries, it will get great fuel mileage too!!!

Thing is the smaller the total effort and size of the company, the less you have to lose for making a mistake. It looks great and we can all say....if these spuds did this, why can't ABC auto company???

Larger corporations are more cautious because a simple recall can kill their image and product line.

case and point is the word >>lithium battery<<. Folks still think flaming laptops - even though that was different chemistry and now years ago. Fluff article...yawn
