Hydrogenics Successfully Demonstrates Chemical Hydride Power Generator

Power generator is capable of delivering 500W of power and is fueled by hydrogen generated by Hydrogenics' proprietary chemical hydride system.

TORONTO, Feb. 26 -- Hydrogenics Corporation (Nasdaq: HYGS - news; TSE: HYG - news), a designer and manufacturer of proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cell technology, is pleased to announce that the company has successfully fulfilled its contract with Canada's Department of National Defense (DND) with on-time delivery and demonstration of a prototype portable fuel cell power generator under the trademark HyPORT C(TM). In addition to demonstrating HyPORT C(TM) to the DND, the power generator was concurrently demonstrated to the US Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) unit in response to the interest expressed by this operations group. Hydrogenics is currently under contract with TACOM to deliver a fuel cell powered auxiliary power system in military light armored vehicles.

Hydrogenics' HyPORT C(TM) power generator is capable of delivering 500W of power and is fueled by hydrogen generated by Hydrogenics' proprietary chemical hydride system. HyPORT C(TM) features include high energy density with lightweight portability, easy fueling, clean and safe operation, and reliable performance. The system demonstrates accurate load-following where, in a proprietary process, hydrogen is generated from sodium borohydride tablets dissolved in water and consumed as demanded by the fuel cell module. The system will be subsequently tested in the field for recharging batteries or directly powering electronic instrumentation. Higher power output ranges are under consideration for future HyPORT C(TM) models.
