Tesla : Car is Fast, Company Still Getting up to Speed

The first salable version of the Tesla Roadster - going to Elon Musk, the company's chairman and biggest investor - will be put on plane and head from the factory in the United Kingdom to Silicon Valley in a matter of days.

The first review of the 2008 Tesla Roadster is in - sort of.

On the Motor Trend Web site today, the two-seat electric from a Silicon Valley start-up gets praise for its "supple" ride and its rapid acceleration.

"I'm being eerily teleported down the barrel of a rail gun, head pulled back by a hard, steady acceleration. Bizarre. And before too long, profoundly humbling to just about any rumbling Ferrari or Porsche that makes the mistake of pulling up next to a silent, 105-mpg Tesla Roadster at a stoplight," writes Kim Reynolds, Motor Trends technical editor.


The scooters top out at a 25mph speed, although the ones on loan to the Sheriff's Department are calibrated to travel no faster than 18mph.

Powered by advanced lithium-ion batteries and two 67bhp (50kW) electric motors to drive the front and rear axles, the Mixim is a four-wheel-drive car with a theoretical top speed of 112mph and a potential maximum range of 156 miles.

Dodge ZEO is 2+2 electric muscle car for the 21st century powered by 200kW electric drive with 0-60 mph in less than 6 seconds and range of 250 miles.
