Plug-In Hybrids Pose New Challenge for Canadian Politicians
One of the most interesting documentaries produced in 2006 had the catchy title, "Who killed the electric car?"
The film zeroed in on the "EV1," an allelectric car built by General Motors in the mid-1990s in response to a California law that encouraged car manufacturers to produce zero-emission vehicles.
Thanks mainly to powerful lobbying by the U.S. oil industry, both the EVI and the California law are long dead, GM having recalled all the leased vehicles and scrapped all but a tiny handful that today are to be found only in museums.
