Mitsubishi Plans Electric Car Launch for India

i-MiEV will launch first in Japan and Hong Kong, with India to follow in a 'few years.'

Mitsubishi Motors expects to launch its electric vehicle in India in a few years while the Outlander SUV will be manufactured locally.

Hindustan Motors’ Managing Director, Ravi Santhanam, and Mitsubishi Motors General Manager for Product Planning, Katsuya Maeda, told newspersons that the electric car, i-MiEV (Mitsubishi innovative electric vehicle) which has been launched in Japan and Hong Kong, is expected to be launched in India in a few years. “This car is for real and is getting ready for commercial production,” Santhanam said.

He said the electric car works on lithium ion battery and can be charged up to 80 per cent in 30 minutes using a special charging system.

The PAS series, which includes six different bikes, will have its official launch next month in Japan. Prices will start at US$800 to US$990.

The bikes will make their debut appearance in Ed's new comedy TV show, 'Living with Ed' which broadcasts Sundays at 10pm ET/PT on HGTV.

The scooters top out at a 25mph speed, although the ones on loan to the Sheriff's Department are calibrated to travel no faster than 18mph.
