Firm Hopes Drivers Willing to Pay to Offset Own Greenhouse-Gas Emissions

Climate Partners hopes Canadian drivers will help fund greenhouse gas reduction projects by donating $10 per ton of CO2 emitted by their personal vehicles.

VANCOUVER (CP) - B.C. motorists, already steamed at the prospect of a new transit levy and possibly hefty gas-guzzler taxes, are being asked to voluntarily tax themselves to combat global warming.

But this idea has the support of the province's largest auto club.

A new company is hoping drivers will assuage any guilt they might feel by paying cash to offset the amount of greenhouse gases their vehicles spew each year.
