Energy Visions Inc. Announces Senior Appointments for Initial Battery Commercialization
OTTAWA, Ontario -- The Board of Energy Visions Inc. ("EVI")(CDNX:EVI.S and OTCBB: EGYV) announced today that Dr. Philip Whiting has been appointed President of Energy Ventures Inc. (Canada). Dr. Whiting brings to EVI an extensive background of successful technology commercialization, executive experience and scientific knowledge. He currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors and as VP of R&D at EVI. Dr. Whiting commented: "Over the past year my enthusiasm for the potential for EVI's innovative battery and fuel cell technologies has grown steadily. I'm confident that we can bring these technologies to the market quickly, and that they will provide a platform for the rapid growth of our company."
EVI also announced today that Mr. Steven Carkner, formerly of Research in Motion Limited ("RIM"), has been appointed Technical Director, Battery Division. Mr. Carkner held the positions of Director of Product Development, Director of Energy Research, and most recently the Director of Intellectual Property Research at RIM. Mr. Carkner was involved in hardware development of RIM's handheld products and was a co-inventor on patents related to RIM's battery operations, appearing on over 12 patents worldwide. Mr. Carkner will assume responsibility for all battery related R&D activities and will oversee the design of a unique charger for the NiZn technology. "EVI's NiZn batteries have an exceptional power to weight ratio which make them an ideal power source for many mobile applications. They are an excellent complement to the EVI fuel cell in a hybrid system. I look forward to further enhancing the benefits of NiZn" said Mr. Carkner.
The Board of EVI expects the appointments of Dr. Whiting and Mr. Carkner will expedite the commercialization of the technologies in EVI's intellectual property pool.
The company also announces that it is in the final stages of re-tooling the NiZn battery pilot production line. EVI is scheduled to begin test runs of AA NiZn cells in February 2002.The imminent launch of the NiZn battery represents the first of EVI's technologies scheduled for commercialization. EVI has also scheduled the initial introduction of their proprietary DMFC technology to follow later in the year.
