Power Tower Could Generate Electricity for 200,000 Homes

Tower five kilometers in diameter and a kilometre high could power 200,000 homes using wind energy.

A kilometre high, it would be more than twice the height of the world's tallest building, Kuala Lumpur's 452m Petronas Towers.

Five kilometres in diameter, it would be the world's widest building, covering almost 19 sq km. (Imposed over Canberra, it would stretch from the Kingston Railway Station to the Royal Mint.)

Made of glass, steel, concrete and polycarbonate, it could generate enough electricity to power up to 200,000 homes. But unlike a coal-fired power station of the same capacity it would not emit over 800,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide each year.
