B.C. Fuel Efficiency Campaign Ponders Taxes, Tolls to Aid Environment
ORIA (CP) - Finance Minister Paul Ramsey sounded like a seasoned car salesman Thursday as he provided an enthusiastic bumper-to-bumper inspection of a new fuel-efficient vehicle.
He took a compact-sized electric- and fuel-powered car for a test drive around the B.C. legislative buildings and said the clean-air, gas- saving vehicle runs like a charm.
Ramsey continued his sales pitch inside the legislature where he released a government document examining taxes on large gas-guzzling vehicles and road tolls on major thoroughfares as ways to cut harmful vehicle emissions in British Columbia.
``We can no longer stick our head in the sand and pretend that global warming is not an issue for every one of us who lives in this province,'' he said.
