The new addition gives customers a choice when renting a gas/electric hybrid vehicle, with the option of selecting the Toyota Prius, a compact hybrid vehicle, or the Nissan Altima, a full-size hybrid vehicle for those desiring more room. Avis added 1,000 Toyota Priuses to its rental fleet earlier.

The Altima Hybrid features a 2.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine, fuel economy estimated at 42 miles per gallon (city)/36 miles per gallon (highway) and an Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emission Vehicle rating. Standard features include push-button start, cruise control, keyless entry, power door locks and windows and dual zone automatic temperature control.

"These vehicles fulfill a variety of customer needs and desires," said Becky Alseth, senior vice president of marketing for Avis Budget Group, parent of Avis. "In addition to consumers who wish to make their rental experience one with minimal environmental impact, we expect a substantial number of customers are thinking of purchasing a hybrid vehicle, and want to try the Nissan Altima or Toyota Prius for themselves to see how it performs."

Mark Phelan tests three different fuel efficiency technologies and concludes that hybrids are the past. Pictured are first Chrysler 300s to come off of European assembly line. Diesel is offered as an option in Europe on this model, but not in North America.

The PML Mini QED supports an all-electric range of 200-250 miles and has a total range of about 932 miles (1,500 km).

C-Metisse concept coupe powered by diesel and electric wheel motors, resulting in combined fuel consumption of 6.5l/100km (36.1mpg).
